Seabridge Gold has been granted a two-year extension to its Environmental Assessment Certificate for its Kerr-Sulphurets-Mitchell (KSM) gold project in northwestern British Columbia.

The new certificate is good until July 29, 2026. The decision was made to protect the health and communities of northwestern BC in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Seabridge said.

The BC Minister of Environment and Climate Change handed down the extension due to the COVID-19 measures taken by Seabridge. Certificates are due to expire if substantial work has not begun on projects, meaning significant capital expenditure and physical work on mine infrastructure.

Seabridge plans to begin fieldwork in 2022, Seabridge chief executive Rudi Fronk said. The company has already begun road and camp construction at KSM.
