The World Bank’s board of executive directors has approved a US$100 million to assist efforts by China’s Huainan municipality to clean up an old coal-mining area in Anhui province in eastern China.

Coal mining has fuelled economic growth in Huainan municipality, in the northern part of Anhui, but has also led to large areas of subsidence and environmental degradation, the World Bank said.
