The deal, which is effective immediately, is worth about A$6 million (US$4.2 million). The majority of the works will be completed by November.

Valmec has recently formed a local alliance in the Northern Territory, and officials for the company confirmed the TE 2 contract is an inaugural step in its projected growth in the region.

"Having recently completed gas construction and pipeline testing works on behalf of AGIG on Newmont Goldcorp's Tanami power project, Valmec looks forward to continuing its relationship with Newmont and [the] Tanami operations," managing director Steve Dropulich said.

A full funding TE 2 is expected to be confirmed in this year's second half.

The gold complex, which awarded its engineering, procurement and construction management contract to WorleyParsons in February, is located northwest of Alice Springs.
