According to Bently Nevada, the newly released system is the first intrinsically cybersecure machinery monitoring system. A built-in data diode enables secure one-way data transfer between the device and Bently Nevada's flagship machinery management software System 1, where diagnostics and proactive monitoring are performed.

The platform is SIL 2 and 3 certified API 670 compliant.

Orbit 60 series, which can be rack based or distributed and extended through a modular remote I/O system, offers 80 dynamic data channels - versus the industry average of 50. Bently Nevada claimed it had a signal processing power 100 times higher than others in the sector, as well as a smaller physical footprint.

"Its scalable architecture allows it to connect to a wide range of assets, from highly critical machinery to general machinery in a variety of industries," the company said; in addition to mining, the platform is also for use in oil and gas, power generation, renewables, steel, pulp and paper and general industrials.

President Terry Knight pointed out that the customers of all of these industries are seeking competitive machinery protection and monitoring solutions that will not only give them the data and insights they need, but also be flexible for future growth.

"Orbit 60 series offers powerful analytics with enhanced flexibility and scalability, along with a built-in cybersecurity feature, reducing overall investment cost and giving operators full visibility of a plant," he said.

The new platform complements Bently Nevada's existing plant-wide offerings, which includes the 3500 machinery protection system. That platform has 85,000 racks installed globally and will continue to be available alongside the newest release.

Bently Nevada is a division within the measurement and controls division of Baker Hughes, which is a GE company (BHGE).
