The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract is a 50/50 joint venture with Fluor and SalfaCorp, and involves the delivery of a 95,000-tonne-per-day copper concentrator and related works.
Fluor said its share of the project’s value will be booked this quarter.
“Our team has worked closely with BHP since the project’s initial phases to align on the project’s goals and structure with an execution approach that will allow us to safely deliver this important project,” company mining and metals business president Tony Morgan said, adding that Fluor’s work portfolio includes some of the most significant copper projects worldwide.
“This experience, combined with our integrated solutions approach, brings cost and execution certainty to the project.”
The announcement comes just one month after BHP said it would invest US$2.46 billion to extend the Spence mine’s lifespan by five decades.
