The system for the Black Mountain Mining (BMM) complex, of which the project is a component, came online in July with the help of its business partners.

Officials said it is a significant step forward in support of the phased construction and commissioning of the zinc concentrator.

"Considering that the blasting for the foundation of the crushing station was undertaken on 20 July 2017, this has been a momentous achievement by the project team," ELB's Dr Stephen Meijers said of the 4-million-tonne-per-year system.

Open-pit Gamsberg, located 30km outside of Aggeneys, is owned jointly by BMM (69.6%), Exxaro Resources (24.4%) and ESOP (6%). Once in production, it will employ 700 people.
