ABB will deliver ring-geared mill drives and intelligent control systems for one SAG mill and one ball mill, running at 6.5MW and 7.5MW respectively.

Veliki Krivelj is a surface mining operation with an annual ore processing capacity of 2.5 million tonnes. Zijin Mining Group plans to invest 200 million (US$227 million) in modernising the facility, which includes three open-pit mines, an underground mine and a smelter.

The ring-geared mill drives developed by ABB include its frozen charge detection, which analyses the mill's angle and dynamic torque during the starting period using a dedicated algorithm to detect smooth cascading.

The company also noted that the dual pinion mill drive uses variable speed technology that ensures low mechanical stress impact on the pinion and ring gear through precise load sharing.
