Medical staff started vaccinations at the Olimpiada and Blagodatnoye mines in Siberia last Friday, after 1,100 doses of the indigenously developed Sputnik V vaccine were delivered there during the week.

Olimpiada had a major outbreak of the virus last year, with 1,400 positive cases reported among its 6,000 employees and contractors.

New batches of the vaccine will be delivered to medical centres as required, said the company in a press release, while noting that 497 workers were vaccinated during the first days of the programme.

Vaccinations will take place on-site at first-aid posts at the Olimpiada and Blagodatnoye in Siberia, and Verninskoye in Irkutsk Oblast.

At Kuranakh and Alluvial in Siberia, and Natalka in Russia's Far East, vaccinations will be conducted at local medical centres.

Russia's Sputnik V vaccine is 91.6% effective, according to a Lancet study published last week.
