Chile approves Codelco plans to close Ventanas smelter

Chilean state national geology and mining service Servicio Nacional de Geología y Minería (Sernageomin) has authorised state-owned miner Codelco to close the Ventanas smelter, marking the final step needed to complete the cessation of operations at the furnaces that have been in use for nearly 60 years.
