FAST's real-time field data acquisition brings together machine learning with portable instrumentation, allowing users to obtain data within 24 to 48 hours and subsequently make real-time decisions on site with the system.

Russ Calow, vice-president of global analytical services for minerals at SGS in Canada, said the company's clients will be able to optimise their exploration programmes and production processes with the meaningful and reliable data from FAST, then make quick decisions in support of a more rapid speed to market.

"The FAST solution reflects a commitment to servicing the mining and smelting industries throughout the entire value chain, leveraging leading technologies," the company said.

SGS has more than 160 geochemical laboratories in 45 countries and operates on-site and near-site laboratories in some of the world's most remote locations.
