Schauenburg, dotNetix unveil AI camera system

New release combines three-dimensional image processing with artificial intelligence

The new release, which the company has added to its proximity detection system range, is a PDS-based advanced driver assist system. It is also the first South African camera to be developed and manufactured with artificial intelligence.

It has been specifically designed for mine safety and traffic management and permits event and video logging. The system, which has cameras positioned at the front, rear or on the sides of a vehicle, uses advanced algorithms to detect objects.

Collision potential is then analysed by the system, and the vehicle's driver receives an audible alarm and/or voice command warning.

The companies said the three-dimensional cameras have been designed to accurately calculate distance to an object by means of configurable dynamic zones of up to 150m.

"It has been identified in the mining environment that there are certain scenarios where tag-based PDS systems are not practical," the pair noted. "For these scenarios, object detection systems are required that use passive PDS sensor technology.

"There are many passive sensor technologies that assist tag-based PDS systems or act as standalone PDS systems. Schauenburg's AI Camera stands for high accuracy, reduced false alarms, distance detection and data/video logging capabilities for effective incident analysis."

Schauenburg business manager Ettiene Pretorius confirmed that the system has been through stringent test, trial and certification phase, all part of the industrialisation process.

CEO Dieter Kovar added that Schauenburg's vision is to innovate new products through the latest digital technologies, and also to ingrain a customer-centric culture.

Schauenburg Systems is part of the German-based Schauenburg International.
