Johnson Matthey goes after underground emissions

Sustainable tech group introduces Mining CRT for diesel emission control

The CRT system, according to JM, is the first to control both diesel particulate matter and NO2 emissions from diesel underground mining equipment, and it can eliminate 99% of particulates.

"Johnson Matthey was the first to develop and patent the Continuously Regenerating Trap (CRT) technology that uses a catalyst to regenerate the diesel particulate filter, which traps the particulate matter in diesel exhaust," the company said.

The Mining CRT technologies are built on a foundation of the company's CRT technology, and incorporate a catalyst for decomposing harmful NO2 into a safer emission. Additionally, JM claimed, it can provide clean air for workers without any impact on productivity.

"Mine operators no longer have to choose between miner health or productivity; clean air, miner safety and mine sustainability can all be accomplished with this very effective technology," sales manager Jack Carroll said.

In addition to mining, JM's science can also be found in the low-emission transport, pharmaceuticals and chemical processing industries.
