Epiroc says deal fits in with eco targets

Swedish mining equipment company Epiroc has completed the acquisition of the business and assets of FVT Research, a Canadian company that converts diesel-powered mining machines to battery-electric vehicles.

Epiroc said FVT Research designs diesel-to-battery conversion kits and rebuilds mining machines to electric versions.

Furthermore, the company also said it has recently been part of a successful project to convert the diesel-powered Epiroc Scooptram ST1030 loader to battery electric.

The now completed acquisition was originally announced in September 2021, when Helena Hedblom, Epiroc's president and chief executive officer, said FVT Research "fits perfectly" into the company's strategy to provide emissions-free battery-electric vehicles.

The details of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

The news follows another acquisition which Epiroc completed on 2 November 2021, this time of situational awareness company Mobilaris MCE, as part of its efforts to improve data offerings.
