The Canadian company said the project in north-western Arizona's Oatman district has an initial plant production goal of 250 US tons per day (226 tonnes per day) and will ramp up to full capacity of 500 US tons per day (454t/d) in the June quarter.

A stockpile is being built at the mill, which is expected to come online by the middle of this month, with first pour to follow.

"Mining at the 4158 stope, the first operational production face, is a significant step forward for Gold Road," president Ian Harris said.

"With the plant preparing for restart, our contractor ramping up operations and a world-class team led by Gold Road general manager Ken Kins, we look forward to the first production of doré and to incrementally increasing production. Achieving the full production capacity of the Gold Road mine is fundamental to our strategy of unlocking the full potential of the entire Oatman district."

Junior miner Para acquired its interest in the Gold Road mine in August 2017. It also owns the El Limon operation in Zarazoga, Colombia.
