RCT turns Tomingley autonomous

Australian mine's LHDs will soon be driverless

The work at the Tomingley underground gold operations in New South Wales will involve two Cat R2900G LHDs; both will have the ControlMaster Guidance Automation system commissioned by the middle of this year.

RCT said it will also be supplying the operation with a Tele Cabin operator chair, LCD monitors and laser guard containment control; the latter will give it the option to operate the units from the mine's surface via the ControlMaster Fibre Optic Control Station (FOCS).

"Guidance automation removes operators from machine cabs, which improves safety while the technology enables faster tramming speeds and eliminates machine damage from operator errors thereby significantly reducing unplanned maintenance works," the company added.

The gold operation 50km south-west of Dubbo first began operation in 2014. It received the green light for underground development least year. According to owner Alkane, the mine produces 50,000oz to 70,000oz of gold pour per year.
