Glencore said the Tesla pilot is one of "multiple" Re|Source pilots that have been launched to track cobalt from upstream facilities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) directly to electric vehicle productions sites.

A final pilot across the entire Tesla supply chain will take place in Q4 ahead of a final launch of the solution in 2022.

Tesla was a key partner in designing and implementing the solution, which was officially announced on 20 May 2021, and the initiative is being supported by blockchain developer Kryha

The solution is also being advised by a growing number of industry associates including Russian producer Norilsk Nickel and British chemicals firm Johnson Matthey, with the latter's participation is based on their experience in responsible sourcing, said Glencore.
