This article is 5 years old. Images might not display.

The extension adds five years to the companies' existing agreement, and includes full-service operations such as planning, mining, drill and blast, and the removal of overburden and topsoil. It will also oversee water management at the operation and the rehabilitation of final landforms.

Thiess will implement semi-autonomous operation of dozers as well as autonomous drilling. All of the mobile equipment and plant will be provided by the firm; it will also serve as operator for the mine's handling and preparation facility.

The extension will come into effect in 2022. Thiess got its first Lake Vertmont contract deal in 2012, when the mine rose in production from 4.6 million tonnes to 10.7Mt per year.

Thiess Is a subsidiary of CIMIC Group.
