Located in Copiapó, in the Atacama region, 650km north of the city of Santiago in Chile, the Candelaria mine is an open-pit and underground mine that provides copper ore to a concentrator located on-site, with a capacity of 75,000t per day. Züblin Chile has been involved in the work since the beginning of 2005.

The extension to the contract involves 22,400m of horizontal developments, plus 1,771,000t of loading and transport of material, among other works. With this extension, Züblin will oversee 58,400m of horizontal developments.

"We have been working in Mina Candelaria for 14 years and have optimised the resources and processes in each of the projects in which we have taken part. The extension of the contract with Mina Candelaria Subterránea is proof of this and makes us proud," said Thomas Birtel, CEO of technology group STRABAG.

The Candelaria copper mining complex is indirectly owned by Lundin Mining (80%) and Sumitomo (20%).
