Toronto-based graphite processer Gratomic has begun construction on air classification units for its Aukum graphite processing plant in Namibia.

The air classification system is intended to eliminate the ore screening process, and separates ore by size, weight, and shape. The system will separate waste material from graphite and remove free-flowing ready-for-market material, while also raising purity of the purity to anode standards.

Gratomic will wet commission the crushing and flotation circuits while manufacturing the air classification units.

The company aims to produce graphite anodes for the electric vehicle market. It has recently agreed with nano-coating technology company Forge Nano to collaborate in micronizing, spheronising, and patenting ALD coating of graphite produced at Aukum.

Gratomic has two off-take agreements with digital asset company Todaq and Phu Sumika, which supplies graphite to battery and lubrication companies.
